Open air wood carving event

Two open air carving events take place in Mosty u Jablunkova each year, when the woodcarvers create beautiful artworks from the tree trunks.
One open air woodcarving event is organized by Maflex as a two-day contest. It regularly takes place at the log hotel Grůň in the local ski resort at weekend at the end of July. The carved sculptures are displayed in the vicinity of hotels and auctioned afterwards.
Another similar event is organized by the Gorol Tourist Information Centre in the village centre at Fojství wooden cottage in the middle of May. It takes three days, during which the woodcarvers from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland meet here. The event always starts around Thursday midday and culminates with the carvings exhibition in the Saturday afternoon. Friday afternoon, when statues already get a realistic form, is dedicated to potato pancakes baking for the public in the wooden cottage.
The organizer welcomes those who would be interested in getting a sculpture carved and thus in co-financing its creation during the open air woodcarving event. The Gorol Tourist Information Centre will also be grateful for donors of wood for this event. The tree trunks should measure from 1.8 m up to 5 m; they are cut to the desired size as needed afterwards. The minimum diameter of the trunk is at least 80 cm, preferably more. If you are willing to assist with a realization of the event in this way, please contact the information centre at This email address is being protected from spambots. The next year will be in the summer 2023.
