A trip to the easternmost point of the Czech Republic
Are you one of those people who love nature and enjoy ‘switching off’ and unwinding from the stresses and strains of everyday life? If so, we have a tip for you – a relaxing walk to the easternmost point of the Czech Republic, offering a perfect opportunity to try out the new educational trail in Bukovec.
The trail passes through beautiful countryside on the edge of the Bukovec Olecky nature reserve with its peat meadows and rare plant life. You then come to a small wood, which you pass through to reach the easternmost point in the Czech Republic. You can have have your photo taken next to the marker stone, see the distances to various points on the globe, sit down and rest on a bench, or cool down in a mountain stream reached by a wooden footbridge. The entire trail is dotted with information panels giving details of the history of the village, the way of life of the local ‘Gorol’ mountain people, and interesting facts about animal life, plants and much more. The trail is open to pedestrians. Only 500 metres long and with no steep slopes, it is ideal for all age groups including small children.
And how do you reach the easternmost point in the country? We recommend that you come on foot, but you can also arrive by car. From the Bukovec – Jasnowice border crossing (Czech Republic – Poland) follow the arrows to the car park at the start of the trail. If you want to park at the border crossing, the length of the trail will be extended by around 800 metres. On the way back, don’t forget to call in at the Kempaland centre, which offers a year-round programme of fun activities. In the summer you can enjoy bungee trampolining, summer tubing, a children’s playground and barbecues. In the winter, the centre offers a full range of skiing activities – not only a standard-size ski lift, but also a children’s ski park. You can enjoy snowtubing, dog sleigh rides or a horse-drawn sleigh known as a kulig. The snack bar next to the ski lift offers a full range of refreshments and snacks.
