Trips along the “Šance” historical fortifications and the megoňka point of natural interest

If you enjoy visiting historical buildings, our region also has many things of interest to offer you.

Megoňky and Jablunkov Šance
This is another interesting trip will take you to our eastern neighbours to view a piece of history. Take the bus from the centre of Mosty u Jablunkova or walk to the local part of Šance. From Šance, follow the yellow-marked hiking trail which will take you to the Milošová Quarry and to a point of natural interest called Megoňky (a number of round boulders). Continue from Megoňky along the yellow-marked trail around the reservoir to the town of Milošová in Slovakia. When you arrive at the main road, continue along it to the right, even though the sign turns left after a while. After 150 m, you can take refreshments at the “U Jeleňa” pub. Then return to the turn-off and you will start climbing on the yellow-marked trail to the border of the Czech Republic. There, you will join the green-marked hiking trail and continue through the locality called Dejůvka and on to the historical fortifications dating from the 16th century known as the Jablunkovské Šance. Continue from the historical fortifications along the green-marked hiking trail around the Chapel of St. Peter and St. Paul and then walk back along the main route or take the bus to the centre of Mosty u Jablunkova.

The former fortresses of the Šance fortifications across our Republic’s border
Less fit hikers can divide the route into several stages. Take the bus from the centre of Mosty u Jablunkova or walk to the local part of Šance. From Šance, follow the yellow-marked hiking trail to the historical fortifications known as the “Jablunkovské Šance”. Then continue along the green-marked hiking trail in the direction of Slovakia which will bring you to the further historical fortifications of Staré Šance in Milošová. You will come to further fortifications, if you follow the green-marked trail to the Slovak town of Svrčinovec. From Svrčinovec, we would recommend that you take the train to the “Čierne - Vyšný koniec” stop. The blue-marked hiking trail leads from the train stop to the Malé Šance fortifications. You will reach the boundary of three countries approximately one kilometre from the fortifications. If you feel that you have already walked enough, you can return to Mosty u Jablunkova from the border area via Hrčava. You will reach Hrčava by following the yellow-marked trail and you can then take the bus back to Mosty u Jablunkova. However, if you wish to visit at least one more place of interest, continue along the yellow and then the green-marked hiking trails from Hrčava toward Bukovec. This will bring you to the teaching trail leading to the easternmost point of the Czech Republic. The trail is only 2 km long, so you should feel free to walk it! After returning, continue along the marked trail to the border crossing. Then turn left along the road and after 2 km you will be welcomed by the “Kempaland” entertainment area with a number of attractions such as summer tubing, mountain carts or aqua-zorbing. You can also take refreshments there with delicious drinks or something good to eat. Take the bus from Bukovec to Jablunkov and from there you can catch a bus to Mosty u Jablunkova from bus platform no. 8.
