Riding an e-bike offers new opportunities but it can be risky too
Electronic bikes are an amazing invention that enable all age groups enjoy cycling and which makes it available to travel longer distances. Riding an e-bike – or cycling in general – enables you to spend your time outside, breathe fresh air, enjoy the landscape and the nature and explore new locations.
However, riding an e-bike is sightly different from riding a „normal“ bike, as it requires more skill and focus. E-bike riders should ride with respect and with consideration regarding their surroundings and they should master riding an e-bike. Please note, that e-bikes are heavier than regular bikes, with a greater inertia, which must be taken into account when turning, braking or riding downhill.

A few tips on how to ride an e-bike

  • Proper gear changing is the be-all and end-all of riding electronic bikes.
  • For long climbs adjust it to a lower assistance level and engage a lower gear.
  • During start engage a lower gear in combination with the lowest assistance level.
  • If you want to stop, engage to a lower gear.
  • If you stop while your assistance is set to the maximum level, you may be taken by surprise when your e-bike accelerates fast at your next start.
  • Ride smoothly. If you are not in a hurry and want to ride as far away as possible, the 1st or 2nd assistance levels are sufficient.
  • Please, keep in mind that i tis advisable to be in a good physical condition to ride an e-bike and never overrate your condition or skill.
  • Remember: if you do not pedal, nobody is helping you and your bike won’t move!

 

TIPS FOR TRIPS ON AN E-BIKE

Along the Šance bulwark and the Czech, Polish and Slovak borders towards the easternmost point of the Czech Republic, 46 km
Mosty u Jablunkova, tourist information centre – at the place called „Na Tunelu“ the cycle route no. 561 to Šance – past a chapel and the historical bulwark called Šance to the visitor centre of the Šance bulwark. Follow the green markers to Dejůvka, Stará Šance to the train stop in Svrčinovec. Ride along the cycle route no. 5494 to „Čierna při Čadci, zastávka“, follow the green markers and then yellow markers to Trojmezí. Follow the yellow markers to Jaworzynky, before the church change to green to get to border crossing Hrčava/Lupienie. Side trip to Hrčava and back. Cycle route no. 561 to Bukovec/Jasnowice – cycle route no. 56 and then no. 10 to Jablunkov and Bocanovice. Cycle route no. 6081 leading to Mosty u Jablunkova. The last exit to Mosty u Jablunkova is not marked, take the tarmac covered road from the rest area to the railway station.

Along the Šance bulwark to stone balls, Medvědí skála (Bear rock) to three chalets up the ridge, 34 km
Mosty u Jablunkova, tourist information centre – at the place called „Na Tunelu“ the cycle route no. 561 to Šance – past a chapel and the historical bulwark called Šance to the visitor centre of the Šance bulwark. Along the nature cycle route „Geopark Megoňky“ – Šance to Dejůvka. Side track to Stará Šance and back following the green marks and cycle route no. 5444. Take the nature trail to Milošová, past the lake to Geopark Megoňky with the stone balls. Filůvka camp – crossroads (yellow and blue marks), turn left to cycle route no. 6081 to the so called Polomská cesta (tarmac covered), turn left to cycle route no. 6084. Near the dogled under Velký Polom side trip to Medvědí skála (Bear rock) and back (cycle route no. 8464). Climb the tarmac covered road to the ridge with three chalets: Kamenná chata, Severka and Skalka. From Skalka take cycle route no. 6084 and no. 6081 respectively (tarmac covered) to get to Mosty u Jablunkova. The last exit to Mosty u Jablunkova is without marks, the tarmac covered road leads to the train station.

Across the Lomná valley and climb to Kamenitý and Slavíč, 50 km
Mosty u Jablunkova, tourist information centre – past the train station along the „Polomská“ route, near the rest area turn right to cycle route no. 6081 – Dolní Lomná, near the viaduct – cycle route no. 6082 across the Lomná valley – near the information centre of the primeval forest Mionší turn right to unmarked tarmac covered road to Kamenitý and Kozubová – Glovčín chalets: tarmac ends, crossroads Kamenitý/Kozubová – Kamenitý chalet – cycle route no. 6082 and then follow the red mark to Slavíč chalet – back follow the cycle route 6082 leading to the valley to Excelsior hotel – cycle route no. 6101 through the wood to Horní Lomná – Kyčmol hotel – cycle route no. 6101 and 6082 across the Lomná valley and také cycle route no. 6081 back to Mosty u Jablunkova. The last exit is without marks, the tarmac roads leads to the train station.
Alternatively, for mountain bikes: from Glovčín turning to Kozubová chalet and cycle route no. 6082 to Kamenitý chalet.
