Meet the goblins at Gírová
Below the summit of Gírová mountain are rock formations with caves, which the local mountain people have always known as ‘The Goblin’s Mill’ (Čertův mlýn).
It is said that a goblin (‘čert’ in Slavic mythology) built a mill there in order to grind up people. He had just one night to build it; when daybreak came a local farmer let out a cockerel which crowed, and the mill fell down. The furious goblin fled the scene, kicking one of the rocks in his rage, and leaving on it the imprint of his hoof. You can continue from Čertův mlýn to the chalet at Gírová and onwards towards Hrčava. Before reaching Hrčava, turn off to the Polish village of Jaworzynka, from where the green marked path will lead you to the meeting point of three countries – the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia. You can then walk to the centre of Hrčava by the yellow marked path and return to Mosty by bus.
Top tip: Visit the easternmost point in the Czech Republic by taking the green marked path towards Bukovec from the ‘Na Dílku’ junction; this leads to a path with information panels.
