The legend of the sunken castle in Mosty
Legend has it that a large castle once stood on the site of the fortifications. The duke had three daughters, who were beautiful but very vain.
When a ball was held at the castle, the daughters wanted to do something that would impress everybody, and so they had amazing slippers made from the crusts of loaves of bread. On the day of the ball, a poor woman came to the castle gate and begged for a little food for her children. The duke’s daughters passed by her with contempt, and the beggar-woman cursed them. When the ball got underway and the daughters stepped onto the dance-floor, there was suddenly a terrible, hellish noise, and the entire castle – with all of the dancers – sank into the depths of the earth, never to be seen again.
