Gorol Days

Since 2009, the Gorol Tourist Information Centre (GOTIC) has held an ongoing annual festival cycle called the Gorol Days. The aim of the events grouped together under the banner of the Gorol Days is to create and develop local ‘experience culture’, based on the folklore and customs of the Gorol region in the easternmost part of the Moravian-Silesian Region.

GOTIC runs an interactive ‘living museum’ focusing on and developing Gorol customs, culture and traditional crafts in the attractive surroundings of the wooden ‘Fojtství’ building (the former mayoral office) in Mosty u Jablunkova – a precise copy of a building dating from 1790. During the Gorol Days, citizens of Mosty and visitors to the town – of all age groups – can try out traditional crafts, learn about regional products and get to know more about Gorol customs and culture. This is a unique project within the Moravian-Silesian Region, offering a broad public regular days packed full of wonderful experiences, allowing people to try their hand at traditional crafts, sample traditional food and drink, or even make their own souvenirs. The Gorol Days feature folk artists from Mosty u Jablunkova and the surrounding area, the Kysuce region of Slovakia and the Polish region of Istebna – an area straddling the borders of three countries but forming a harmonious whole, bound together by its traditions, customs and even its language. Throughout the Gorol region, whether in the Czech Republic, Poland or Slovakia, local people use a distinctive common dialect known as ‘po našymu’ (literally meaning simply ‘the way we speak’).
The regular events of the Gorol Days take place in single-day blocks throughout the main tourist season and during the spring school holidays, and focus on six main themes: Wool and sheep products, Wood in the lives of the Gorol people, Gorol clothing, Pottery, Gorol cookery, and Bee-keeping. The themes alternate throughout the season, and are demonstrated at exhibitions of works by Czech, Polish and Slovak folk artists, as well as many other events including competitions for children and adults alike. We look forward to seeing you there!
